Phrozen RPG Resin Review

Exploring the New Phrozen RPG Resin: A Tabletop Gamer's Review

Phrozen has stepped into the spotlight with its latest RPG resin, designed specifically for tabletop games and miniatures enthusiasts. As a fan of Resin printed miniatures, I had high hopes for this resin, and here's how it held up.

Unboxing and Initial Impressions

Upon opening the package, I was immediately struck by the resin's consistency. It was runny and liquidy even at cooler temperatures, which in my experience, often signals easier printing results.

Printing Performance

To put the resin to the test, I printed some miniature Orcs by Artisan Guild, which I plan to use in a painting class for kids. The outcome was impressive—crisp details and smooth finishes. However, I did have to adjust the exposure settings, increasing them by about 20% compared to other resins. Once dialed in, the prints were flawless.

I also experimented with larger models, including a T-Rex and a demon dragon bat. There were a couple of failures initially, but after tweaking the settings, everything printed perfectly. All components fit together seamlessly with no warping, which was a relief when dealing with complex models.

Durability Test

One major concern with miniatures is their durability, especially during gameplay mishaps. To test this, I printed 15 demon models with delicate features like thin tails and swords. I conducted drop tests from various heights, and remarkably, all models survived intact. This level of durability isn't common in resins, making it a standout feature.

You can see how it compares and the drop heights here.

A Few Drawbacks

Despite its strengths, Phrozen RPG resin isn't without drawbacks. Firstly, the cost is considerable, ranging between £50 and £60. While you generally get what you pay for, it's worth weighing this against your budget. Secondly, the resin has a noticeable chemical odor, which is far stronger than any other resin I have used before. It's something to keep in mind if you’re sensitive to smells, and realistically you should be ventilating the space anyway.

Painting and Final Thoughts

I also tested how well the resin takes paint. It performed equally well with primers and all types of paints, bringing out the details beautifully. This resin is a great option if you’re looking for high-quality results, especially for small, intricate figures.

In summary, the Phrozen RPG resin offers exceptional quality and durability, making it worth considering for tabletop enthusiasts. While it's more expensive, the added durability might justify the cost, especially for smaller, more fragile pieces. I'm impressed and will likely use it for future projects involving miniatures.
